Abstract

Primary tumors of the sternum are rare, accounting for only about 5% of all bony tumors. This case report presents a 25-year-old female who developed a progressively enlarging mass on the left side of her chest over 3 years, which was eventually diagnosed as an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). The patient underwent a preoperative coil angioembolization followed by successful wide local excision and reconstruction of the defect using a titanized polypropylene mesh. The rarity of ABCs in the sternum, the clinical challenges in diagnosis, the surgical considerations for resection and reconstruction, and the importance of interdepartmental coordination in management are discussed in this case report.
